"The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future." ~Theodore Roosevelt
Hi! My name is Janelle Woodland and I'm thrilled to be teaching Social Studies in the 6th grade Stegosaurus learning community! Before joining the Raptors, I taught 4th and 5th grades for 14 years between Chicago and the Denver metro area. My family and I are into all things outdoors- from organized sports to family hiking and skiing trips.
Sixth graders will spend this year building understanding of the Maya, Inca, and Aztec peoples. Our work together will create the stories of these ancient civilizations and discover ways that these people of long ago still impact our lives today. We will simulate what it was like to be a part of an ancient tribe, we will explore the geography of the western hemisphere, and we will analyze historical documents throughout the year. Students will access information using a wide variety of tools and media. It's going to be such an amazing adventure!
I can't wait to get to know my students and their families. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
